Job description

Wheely is not a traditional ride-hailing company. We are building a platform with user privacy at its core while successfully scaling a five-star service to millions of rides across multiple cities.

We are seeking a Finance Director/VP Finance to lead our financial operations in a high-growth scaleup environment. This role combines hands-on leadership of day-to-day financial activities with strategic oversight, ensuring regulatory compliance, accurate reporting, and efficient resource management.

Reporting directly to the CEO/Founder, you will play a pivotal role in scaling our finance function while maintaining a lean, automated team.

For top-performing candidates, there is a clear path to promotion to VP of Finance within 12-18 months, expanding responsibilities to include Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and broader strategic initiatives. Candidates with 3+ years of FP&A experience may be considered for the VP of Finance level from the outset, depending on their qualifications and fit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including general ledger management, accounts payable/receivable (AP/AR), reconciliations, and cash flow optimization.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, management reports, and analyses to support executive decision-making.
  • Lead audits (internal and external), coordinating with auditors and resolving any issues efficiently.
  • Manage tax compliance, including filings, provisions and strategies.
  • Handle treasury functions, such as cash management, banking relationships, investments, and risk mitigation.
  • Build and run a lean finance team (under 10 people), leveraging automation and AI tools to keep overhead low and drive efficiency.
  • Contribute to strategic projects, such as fundraising or international expansion, with potential to take on FP&A responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of post-qualification experience in a Finance Manager / Financial Controller or equivalent managerial role in finance.
  • 2+ years of experience hiring & managing finance teams.
  • (Optional) 3+ years of FP&A experience (e.g., budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis) for immediate consideration at VP level.
  • Chartered Accountant (ACA) or equivalent qualification (e.g., US CPA).
  • Bachelor's degree from a top university in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience in international or multi-entity environments, including handling cross-border compliance, currency management, and global reporting.

What we Offer

Wheely expects the very best from our people, both on the road and in the office. In return, employees enjoy flexible working hours, stock options and an exceptional range of perks and benefits.

  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Life and critical illness insurance
  • Monthly credit for Wheely journeys
  • Lunch allowance
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Professional development subsidies
  • Best-in-class equipment
  • This is an office-based role located in Hammersmith. Wheely has an in-person culture but allows flexible working hours and work from home when needed. In most cases, we expect team members to be in the office at least four days a week.
