Job description

Director, User Experience Design, Reuters

We envisage the successful candidate being based in London, with hybrid working available.

Reuters is seeking a visionary Design Director to lead our User Experience Design and Research team. This dynamic role involves spearheading the design of consumer products, an online B2B marketplace, a cloud native media content distribution platform, and content production tools for our global newsroom. We are looking for a curious and versatile design leader who is eager to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of content experiences and delivering moments of delight to our customers. If you are a creative problem solver passionate about transforming complex problems into simple elegant solutions, we invite you to join us in re-imagining how customers engage with Reuters.

About the Role

As the Director of User Experience Design, you will:

  • Lead design teams and UX research across Reuters. We’re looking for a leader that’s committed to building a world-class design team supporting Reuters’ mission. You’ll demonstrate a customer obsessed approach to continually create impact on our products.

  • Create and articulate a compelling UX vision for customers across our business. You’ll be a strategic thinker and storyteller who can align a wide variety of cross-functional stakeholders to deliver your creative vision and drive results.

  • Define success criteria for each product area and inspire the team. You’ll look for insights both inside and outside the organization, serving as a credible and important voice with customers and in their market.

  • Ensure the customer voice and product vision is embedded across teams, and work is prioritized, and trade-offs are made based on customer and business value.

  • Remove roadblocks as needed and guide the team through ambiguity, ensuring decisions are grounded in data.

  • Coach and empower teams to deliver outcomes and drive high performance, instilling Thomson Reuters values and measuring progress against team OKR’s.

  • Drive innovation and change initiatives.

  • Attract and develop great talent and build the next generation of leaders. You’ll ensure diversity of thought in teams; encouraging robust dialogue to surface diverse and opposing viewpoints and holding self and team accountable to commit to decisions once made.

About You

You are a fit for the role of Director of User Experience Design, if you have:

  • Extensive experience in consumer and B2B product design, with demonstrable design leadership/management experience, ideally on a global scale.

  • The ability to empower your teams to deliver on expectation and grow the overall team performance. You’ll ensure your team develop as professionals and will foster a culture of inclusion and belonging.

  • A robust portfolio of previous product design work that illustrates some hands-on work but mostly work performed through your teams. Portfolio showcases a proven track record of solving complex design problems with design led thinking that exhibits a clean, polished design aesthetic coupled with a passion for pixel perfection, consistency, and usability.

  • Demonstrated success navigating complex organizations and ability to be persuasive/influential with a wide range of diverse audiences.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience interacting with high level stakeholders. You’ll be comfortable presenting and recommending trade-offs, communicating changes in delivery expectations and make key decisions around budget and resourcing.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in UX/HCI or related field, or significant equivalent experience.

Please Note: Completed applications must be submitted by Sunday 11th May 2025. Early applications are encouraged.
