Job description

The Team

KPMG's Turnaround team is the first line of response to opportunities arising from financial stress and distress. These situations require multi-capability teams to deliver comprehensive client solutions, leveraging the best of KPMG to win work. The team works with regional and large corporate clients across the UK, drawing expertise from all service lines. A collaborative approach is essential. The team handles a broad spectrum of work, including:

  • Crisis cash/liquidity management
  • Options reviews
  • Refinancing
  • Accelerated M&A
  • Cash & working capital management
  • Model review, data analytics, and implementation
  • Performance improvement (revenue optimization, cost reduction, turnaround & transformation)
  • Economic profitability (cost allocation for product, customer & channel profitability)
  • Helpline for general enquiries (credit insurance, rent arrears, or distressed customers or suppliers)

While the team isn't sector-specific, individuals with sector-specific experience are valued. Applicants are expected to work across all sectors depending on client demand.

The Role

We are recruiting a Director based in London, with flexible working arrangements depending on client needs. The role involves working across various product areas and in dynamic environments.

  • Lead originations and develop deal flow, leveraging networks for lead generation
  • Support regional growth and business development strategies
  • Build credibility and manage relationships with external stakeholders (boards, advisors, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively across all levels, often in challenging circumstances
  • Assess challenging situations and develop innovative solutions
  • Ensure rigorous and efficient delivery of engagements, adhering to scope, time, quality, and budget
  • Build and coach the team, providing high-quality feedback
  • Contribute to decision-making and the ongoing success of the team and wider business
Candidate Profile
  • Strong academic and technical background (ACA, CFA, MBA or equivalent)
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and strategic thinking skills with financial modelling experience
  • Significant turnaround and restructuring experience within Big 4, boutique advisory, workout banks, or as a CRO
  • Experience in business review, challenge, and managing all transaction phases
  • Proven ability to lead multi-workstream advisory projects across turnaround, transformation, and liquidity disciplines
  • Experience managing stakeholders including corporates, lenders, lawyers, and internal teams
  • Track record of building and motivating high-caliber teams
  • Personal drive, ambition, and a personable approach to build confidence and trust
  • Excellent communication skills with authority and credibility
