Job description

Join Us as Director – Trafford Elective Hub

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT)

Are you a dynamic, transformational leader ready to make a lasting impact on elective care? At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), we are seeking an exceptional Director to lead our Trafford Elective Hub—a pioneering initiative that will shape the future of elective services across Greater Manchester.

About The Role

As Director, you will form a key part of the hub’s triumvirate leadership team alongside clinical and nursing leads. Reporting to the MFT’s Chief Delivery Officer, you will provide strategic leadership and operational management of the hub. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the transformation of elective care pathways, drive cultural change, and deliver a service that is innovative, efficient, and truly patient-centred.

About You

You will bring significant senior operational management experience within a complex healthcare environment and specifically within a surgical setting. Your collaborative leadership style and ability to drive transformation at scale will be crucial in delivering the vision for the Trafford Elective Hub.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement MFT’s vision and strategy for the hub in collaboration with the Executive Directors and Clinical Group Chief Executives.
  • Ensure the delivery of a high-quality, safe, and effective service that continually improves performance, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Lead the transformational change required to establish the hub, including programme management, robust governance, and oversight of key workstreams.
  • Develop and manage effective plans, governance systems, financial and performance arrangements to achieve ambitious targets.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across MFT, ensuring alignment of strategies and optimising opportunities for service integration and innovation.

MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England with a turnover of £2.8bn & is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We’re creating an exceptional integrated health & social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.

Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 30,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We’ve also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research, and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our Electronic Patient Record system which launched in September 2022.

We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What’s more, we’re excited to be embarking on our Green Plan which sets out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
