Middlemore has been retained by a leading financial services institution on a newly scoped mandate for a Director of Talent and ED&I, based in London.

This is a senior appointment within the global talent function, acting as the number two across a diverse, international employee population of approximately 2,000 FTE. The role will focus on shaping and embedding the organisation’s learning, talent, performance, and ED&I strategy, with regular exposure to the C-suite and stakeholders across multiple regions.

This is both a strategic and hands-on role, offering a unique opportunity to drive meaningful change in a complex and evolving business environment.

Responsibilities:

Learning & Development

  • Responsible for taking a strategic leadership role in learning and development, overseeing the creation and implementation of comprehensive training programmes, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth across the firm.
  • Conduct needs assessments and collaborate with stakeholders to address skill gaps and shape development programs to align with the firm's talent programme.
  • Oversee the Learning Management System (LMS), track progress and engagement.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using feedback and performance data.
  • Create blended learning programmes and bespoke learning (face-to-face and eLearning).
  • Manage the L&D budget effectively.
  • Create clear processes to streamline L&D activities.
  • Design tailored learning programs for various employee levels.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to develop employees and support learning.
  • Foster a feedback culture and value-driven improvement.
  • Manage external vendors, including eLearning providers, training consultants, and coaches.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

  • Experience of designing and implementing DEI initiatives which have had a demonstrable effect on organisational culture. Will have previously worked with an extensive range of internal and external stakeholders to embed DEI.
  • Has an understanding of the barriers individuals face and an understanding of intersectionality and how that impacts experiences.
  • Enhance the DEI maturity by developing and implementing a ‘built-in ’strategy as opposed to ‘bolt-on’ initiatives, leading to DEI being embedded in everything the firm does.
  • Contribute to strategic DEI projects, work on high-priority, strategic DEI projects that focus on workforce diversity, talent pipelines, performance management, promotion, succession planning and talent pipelining processes, creation of inclusive policies. These projects may include diversity metrics reporting, leadership involvement in DEI efforts, and driving firm-wide initiatives in areas like inclusive hiring strategies or partnerships with external DEI organisations.
  • Use a data driven approach to develop and drive the DEI strategy:

Background and experience:

  • Experience of working in a financial services or professional services firm desirable
  • Operated in a Centre of Excellence (CoE) within a Ulrich model structure, working in collaboration with the HRBP community
  • Be a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion ambassador throughout all learning, be a self starter and be able to manage multiple programmes and deadlines
  • A fast-paced environment requiring a strong and resilient individual to drive a high-performance culture.
  • Previous experience of managing and developing a small team
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills – serving as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in aspect of talent development / management.
