Overview

Director, SME Sales Specialist, Europe – Role focused on driving revenue growth and expanding Mastercard’s presence in the Europe region within the SME segment. Mastercard is committed to helping SMEs grow and thrive in a digital-first economy by delivering customer-centric solutions through emerging channels. The role sits within a global team and collaborates with Account Management, Business Development, SME regional Product Managers, and market stakeholders to develop and execute go-to-market strategies, drive volume and revenue growth, and ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Sales (Primary Focus)

  • Own and execute a revenue-driven sales strategy to grow Mastercard’s alternative distribution SME segment share across Europe.
  • Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline, leveraging data-driven insights to prioritise high-impact opportunities in assigned target segments.
  • Identify and engage potential customers through networking, partnerships, and direct outreach.
  • Understand SME pain points and tailor Mastercard’s solutions to address their challenges, including payment acceptance, spend management, and digital transformation, while articulating a clear business case to channel partners.
  • Track and analyse performance, adjusting sales tactics and strategies as needed to exceed growth targets.
  • Work in alignment with the Account Manager, BD and Product teams, and actively engage with both clients and prospects to drive conversations and initiatives.
  • Represent Mastercard at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance brand visibility and establish thought leadership in the SME space.

Product Management (Supporting Focus)

  • Support go-to-market execution by collaborating with product, marketing, and partnerships teams to enhance Mastercard’s SME solutions.
  • Develop business strategies to help SME customers digitise payments, streamlining B2B transactions for small businesses.
  • Analyse market trends, competition, and SME lifecycle journeys to inform product and sales strategies, driving differentiation and innovation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve value propositions and win via emerging distribution channels.
  • Develop sales enablement tools and training materials to support SME-focused colleagues.

  • Possess a strong track record of achievement in a sales position.
  • Have proven experience engaging internal and external commercial and technical stakeholders to drive solution development and adoption.
  • Have a strong sales background, with experience in lead generation, pipeline management, deal negotiation, and revenue growth.
  • Have experience in financial services and/or payments, with an understanding of competitive offerings, industry trends, and profitability drivers.
  • Have strong relationship management, collaboration, influencing, and communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated, a quick learner, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to navigate working in a high growth, global organisation.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Proficiency in the English language required; additional languages are desirable.
