Job Description:

UK Finance is the collective voice for the banking and finance industry, representing over 250 firms to enhance competitiveness, support customers, and foster innovation.

The Capital Markets and Wholesale sector drives the UK’s success in international financial services. Post-Brexit, policymakers and regulators aim to develop a robust UK regulatory regime for capital markets and wholesale banking outside the EU’s single rulebook.

This is a newly created role as part of UK Finance’s expansion and investment in capital markets and wholesale policy. The main goal for the post holder will be to establish UK Finance as a credible voice in public policy related to UK secondary markets and post-trade policy.

  • Lead and develop the strategy for UK secondary markets policy and support related committees and working groups.
  • Identify key components and regulations of UK secondary markets and define our positions.
  • Oversee contributions to the UK’s market reform initiatives.
  • Conduct horizon scanning for strategic issues and opportunities in UK secondary markets.
  • Engage with regulatory and legislative initiatives affecting UK-based firms and their clients.
  • Advocate strategically with stakeholders, translating technical policy into clear messaging.
  • Build and maintain relationships with HMT, FCA, Bank of England, and other stakeholders and trade associations.
Expertise required:
  • Deep knowledge of UK and international secondary markets, ideally as a technical specialist.
  • Understanding of political, legislative, and regulatory issues in capital markets, especially secondary markets.
  • Desirable: knowledge of post-trade policy.
  • Experience in international and UK secondary markets, gained from banks, law firms, consultancies, regulators, or trade associations.
  • Ability to develop industry-supported agendas, navigate diverse views, and build consensus.
  • Strategic influence and established relationships with regulators and industry stakeholders.

The post holder will be a senior leader within UK Finance and part of the senior leadership team.
