KPMG's national Incentives, Reliefs & Innovations team comprises tax, engineering, science, and technology specialists delivering expert advice across various industry sectors. As one of the largest teams in the industry, our continued investment in innovation advisory means we seek technology specialists to join us in the next exciting phase of our growth.

Our team works with clients ranging from owner-managed businesses to large multinationals. We are looking for a Director with a strong information technology background to assist clients with innovation advisory services, including R&D tax credits, Patent Box, R&D Allowances, Grants, and Innovation Advisory services.

Role and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead engagement teams to develop claim methodologies and prepare R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC, taking responsibility for your own and your team's work.
  2. Manage all aspects of the R&D work stream, including resource conflicts, ensuring proper quantification of claims, and documenting complex projects for HMRC submission.
  3. Lead by example in client relationships, technical quality, and service delivery.
  4. Advise clients on complex legislation applications, solving problems related to R&D claims.
  5. Coach and develop junior staff, sharing technology knowledge.
  6. Coordinate with HMRC specialists to facilitate claim agreements, including leading negotiations on technology aspects.
  7. Establish best practices for R&D claim preparation based on current policies and legislation.
  8. Build and maintain strong client relationships, including new clients.
  9. Promote internal networking within the wider tax practice and advocate for our services.
  10. Lead business development, including progressing leads to sales, contract negotiations, and presentations.
  11. Follow KPMG policies and demonstrate resilience and flexibility under pressure.

Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Honours/Postgraduate Degree in an IT-related discipline.
  2. Detailed knowledge of R&D tax legislation, especially as it applies to IT, with significant industry experience and leadership in workstreams.
  3. Ability to understand key technical concepts and work within cross-disciplinary teams.
  4. Strong attention to detail and client-focused approach.
  5. Excellent communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
  6. Use of technology tools to improve R&D claim quality and efficiency.
  7. Leadership qualities, enthusiasm, and positive attitude under pressure.
  8. Ability to build cooperative relationships and foster inclusive team environments.
  9. Excellent project management skills.
  10. Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing team members.
  11. Strong analytical skills.
  12. Reputation building through quality work and expertise.
  13. Tax and accounting qualifications (e.g., CTA, ACA, ACCA) are advantageous but not essential.
