About the Role:

As the Planning Director, you will play a crucial role in driving Cardiff’s growth and urban development, ensuring the city evolves sustainably and innovatively. You will oversee all planning activities, ensuring policies align with Cardiff’s long-term vision, regional strategies, and national objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage the planning department, setting strategic direction and fostering high performance.
  2. Develop and implement city-wide planning strategies for sustainable growth, community development, and environmental stewardship.
  3. Collaborate with local stakeholders, elected members, developers, and partners to facilitate planning and development projects.
  4. Oversee planning policy formulation, review of Local Development Plans, and management of planning applications.
  5. Ensure planning processes are efficient, transparent, and responsive to Cardiff’s diverse communities.
  6. Provide expert advice and leadership on planning matters, representing Cardiff regionally and nationally.
  7. Promote innovation and excellence in urban planning and design to improve residents’ quality of life.

About You:

  1. Proven leadership in planning, urban development, or related fields.
  2. Strong knowledge of planning policies, processes, legislation, and experience with large-scale projects.
  3. Excellent strategic thinking, decision-making, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  4. Commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and community-focused planning.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Planning or related discipline (Chartered status preferred).
  2. Senior management experience in planning or development.
  3. Deep knowledge of urban planning, environmental policies, and community development practices.
