Job description

Tuition Director

Birmingham, West Midlands | Full time, permanent
£55,000–£70,000 basic salary plus annual performance bonus of up to 20% of salary
Total annual earning potential: £66,000–£84,000, plus Flourish benefits

Help us build a tuition service that makes a lasting difference.

Are you an experienced tuition or alternative provision leader who enjoys developing services, winning partnerships and helping children access the education they need?

At Flourish Education, we’re looking for a Tuition Director to build and lead our growing tuition division. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the service from its foundations, develop your team and lead its expansion through our regional hub network.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you’ll combine commercial leadership with a clear commitment to educational quality and safeguarding. Initially, you’ll work directly on partnerships, bids and service delivery. As the division grows, you’ll develop the people and structure needed to support regional expansion.

What we offer
  • £55,000–£70,000 basic salary, depending on experience.

  • Annual performance bonus of up to 20% of basic salary, worth £11,000–£14,000, subject to agreed targets.

  • A 4.5-day working week during term time, paid for five days, following successful probation and subject to meeting agreed performance criteria.

  • Private healthcare.

  • Regular team socials and opportunities to build relationships across the business.

  • Investment in your learning and leadership development.

  • Direct access to the Managing Director and the opportunity to shape a new division.

Our values of transparency, value, learning and trust guide how we work. We encourage people to take ownership, share ideas and keep improving.

Your role

You’ll build a safe, effective and profitable tuition service supporting children and young people through SEND tuition, alternative provision, targeted academic intervention and online learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing the tuition strategy, budget and growth plan, starting in Birmingham and supporting expansion through approved regional hubs.

  • Building relationships with local authorities, virtual schools, schools and multi-academy trusts.

  • Identifying suitable opportunities and leading tender submissions, bids, contract negotiations and mobilisation.

  • Taking ownership of the division’s commercial performance, including pricing, margins, forecasts and delivery costs.

  • Recruiting, coaching and developing tuition account managers and future regional leaders.

  • Building a suitable tutor network across subjects, key stages, locations and specialist needs.

  • Overseeing the learner journey from referral and tutor matching through assessment, delivery, progress reviews and final reporting.

  • Establishing quality assurance through observations, tutor coaching, learner feedback and evidence of progress.

  • Working with our compliance team and Designated Safeguarding Lead to maintain safe recruitment and delivery arrangements.

  • Implementing practical CRM, booking, online classroom and reporting processes.

The role will involve travel to commissioners, clients and regional hubs.

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring senior leadership experience in tuition, alternative provision or a comparable education service, alongside evidence that you can develop a service and deliver commercial results.

We’re particularly interested in your experience of:

  • Winning and managing local authority or school contracts.

  • Leading bids, tenders, partnerships and contract mobilisation.

  • Managing budgets, pricing and service profitability.

  • Supporting learners with SEND, Education, Health and Care Plans and barriers to education.

  • Assessing teaching quality and measuring learner progress.

  • Leading teams and developing education professionals.

  • Managing safeguarding risks in online and face-to-face provision.

  • Introducing systems and processes that make delivery more effective.

Qualified Teacher Status or a relevant education qualification would be advantageous.

You’ll be comfortable moving between strategic planning and practical delivery, building relationships and taking responsibility for making things happen.

Flourish Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Appointment is subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks. We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
