Job summary

AstraZeneca Cambridge is seeking a Director, Translational Pathology to lead the scientific quality and delivery of the Translational Pathology portfolio. The role combines strategic oversight, hands-on contribution, and cross-functional leadership to enable timely, decision-enabling insights.

The postholder will manage quality risks, ensure GCP compliance, and mentor scientists while partnering across discovery, biology, pharmacology, toxicology, and regulatory teams to integrate pathology into

Qualifications

• Significant postdoctoral or equivalent experience in a research environment.
• Substantial practical experience in histopathology and immunohistochemistry.
• Experience operating to GCP/GLP ISO 15189/17025 quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific leadership across Translational Pathology portfolio.
• Act as expert in histopathology, biomarkers, IHC, digital pathology and image analysis.
• Develop experimental plans, assays, controls, endpoints and timelines.
• Oversee project scope, milestones, risks and resource needs.
• Lead projects, contribute to experimental design and data interpretation.
• Ensure pathology activities comply with GCP, SOPs and quality standards.
• Coordinate data Packages and metadata handover.
• Plan team capacity across pathology disciplines.
• Mentor and develop scientists for scientific excellence.
• Collaborate with discovery, biology, pharmacology and regulatory teams.
• Present portfolio updates and recommendations to teams and governance.
