Role Purpose
The Director of Technology Projects will lead the successful delivery of Calastone's strategic and business-critical technology initiatives. The role requires strong project management across both in-house teams and outsourced vendors, ensuring timely, budget-conscious, and quality-focused project execution.
As a key member of the Technology management team, this role will work closely with Directors of Engineering, Product Managers, and Senior Business Stakeholders to ensure technology projects are delivered efficiently, driving strategic outcomes that align with Calastone's growth initiatives.
The individual will also ensure that delivery governance, stakeholder communication, and operational excellence are embedded across all technology initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Programme Delivery: Lead, manage, and oversee major technology projects and programmes, ensuring all deliverables are achieved within agreed timelines, budgets, and quality parameters, including:
- Cross functional software upgrades
- Strategic technology reorganization and investment programmes
- Management of cross organisation work involving software, data, cloud, and infrastructure engineering
- Support for cybersecurity related programmes
- Governance and Reporting: Maintain effective governance for projects, producing robust reporting on budgets, resource utilisation, effort tracking, risk and issue management, and delivery progress.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project goals, progress, risks, and changes.
- Vendor Management: Manage outsourced development teams and technology delivery partners to ensure adherence to contract terms, service standards, and project objectives.
- Cross-functional Leadership: Coordinate efforts across multiple workstreams, facilitating collaboration between product, engineering, operations, and business units.
- Risk Management: Proactively identify project risks and issues, ensuring mitigation plans are established, communicated, and actioned.
- Methodology Alignment: Champion the use of Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies appropriately, ensuring each project is scoped, planned, and executed using best practice techniques.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements and best practices in project management, striving for operational efficiency and higher quality delivery standards.
Required Knowledge & Experience
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in delivering complex technology projects within Financial Services or Fintech environments.
- Strong background in technology project and programme management, ideally supported by industry certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM, SAFe).
- Proven track record of managing multi-million-pound programmes, involving both internal teams and external vendors.
- Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure) and enterprise software delivery environments.
- Strong financial management skills - managing budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- In-depth understanding of common technical issues in software delivery projects, with the ability to bridge communication between technical and business teams.
- Previous experience managing vendor relationships and contractual governance.
- Strong knowledge of operational, regulatory, and compliance requirements within financial services.
