Job description

St Albans School seeks a Director of Sport for January 2026. The Director of Sport leads all elements of sport and physical education at St Albans School and reports to the Assistant Head – Co-Curricular. Their focus will be on providing inspiring opportunities for pupils across all age and ability ranges, enabling them to discover a life-long love of physical activity and sport.

The Director of Sport is an ambassador for School Sport both internally and externally and will continue to develop and build upon a culture that celebrates not only sporting excellence, but also inclusivity and character development.

This exciting opportunity arises as the School is preparing to welcome the first girls into the First Form (Year 7) in September 2026. Taking a leading role in this transition, the Director of Sport will shape the quality and direction of co-curricular sport, Academic PE and Core PE in the next chapter of the School’s History.

The School has its own salary structure based on, but substantially above, national scales and a wide range of opportunities for advancement beyond the basic pay scale.
