Director of Service Operations (DevOps and IT)

We're seeking a hands-on Service Operations Director to lead our DevOps and IT Operations. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of our infrastructure across both development and production environments. Collaborating closely with Product and Engineering teams, you'll drive platform initiatives, improve internal tooling, and promote operational excellence.

This leadership role requires active involvement in daily operations. You will mentor a small, talented team of 5, and lead by example as we expand into new markets.

DevOps Responsibilities
  • Manage the full lifecycle of infrastructure and operations, from development to live systems
  • Lead migration from Kubernetes to Nomad with minimal disruption
  • Oversee CI/CD processes using Octopus Deploy, improving deployment metrics
  • Monitor system performance with tools like New Relic; address bottlenecks and incidents
  • Collaborate on platform upgrades, tooling, and scalability
  • Set up and maintain VOIP infrastructure (FreePBX) for regional expansion
  • Define incident response processes for business hours
  • Ensure infrastructure security in coordination with security teams
  • Mentor team members, fostering growth in DevOps and operational practices
  • Manage cloud infrastructure costs and optimize spend
  • Monitor key KPIs: system availability, incident metrics, and costs
IT Management Responsibilities
  • Oversee IT operations and support internal tools and systems
  • Proficiency in Office365 and MS-Entra is essential
  • Manage relationships with hardware suppliers
  • Oversee connectivity for multiple offices in 6 African countries
Minimum Requirements
  • Proven leadership in DevOps or Service Operations within a scaling tech company
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and monitoring tools like New Relic
  • Experience with Nomad, Octopus Deploy, Office365, and FreePBX is a plus
  • Pragmatic problem-solver with strategic and technical skills
  • Excellent communicator for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience managing and mentoring small teams
  • Knowledge of incident management and continuous improvement
  • Comfortable working remotely with 4-6 hours overlap with UTC+1
