Job Summary:

The Director of Risk Management is responsible for the administrative and clinical risk management activities within Care New England Medical Group (CNEMG). Primary functions include identifying, investigating and responding to risk related issues and complaints involving CNEMG office locations, employees and clinicians.

The Director of Risk Management manages and assists in conducting quality and risk related investigations and safety events to promote patient safety, staff safety and to identify potential liability. Collaborates on risk and compliance related events throughout CNE (including individual operating units) that impact CNEMG, monitors ambulatory safety event reports and provides trending and improvement opportunities.

Participates in multi-disciplinary work groups, councils and committees for the purpose of evaluating and improving organizational risk and patient care while ensuring the medical group perspective is considered.

The Director of Risk Management will collaborate with CNE Risk Management and assist in all aspects of the CNE Indemnity self-insurance professional and general liability programs as it relates to the employed physicians and CNEMG medical office practices. Participates in CNE Risk Education and annual CNE Risk Office Risk Assessments.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manages all liability exposure for the CNEMG ambulatory practices.
  2. Serves as the Risk Management liaison by participating on relevant Medical Staff, Credentialing, and Quality committees and ensures ongoing education for clinical staff on related issues.
  3. Directs the development and implementations of new policies and procedures; oversees compliance with all regulatory agencies, including serving as liaison for investigations with the department of Health.
  4. Responsible for the training and oversight, RCA/Action plan, development and implementation of Event Reporting for CNEMG.
  5. Collaborates with Quality Safety and Disaster preparedness.
  6. Collaborates and supports Clinical Effectiveness. Initiates to achieve goals throughout all phases of the project lifecycle. Develops strategies and timelines for managing clinical effectiveness. Initiates and identifies resources needed to achieve goals. Coordinates daily logistical issues and acts as a liaison internally and externally with nursing departments and physicians.
  7. Participates in the work of Underwriting and Claims Committees in managing and directing the professional liability program, and with CNE Risk Management.
  8. Works with CNE Risk Management on workers’ compensation representation and participates in their deliberations as needed. Oversee the hospital’s compliance with HIPAA and HITECH regulations.
  9. Reports on incidents/events as required by state and federal statutes and regulatory rules and regulations.
  10. Serves as liaison between Risk and CNE self-insurance program.
  11. Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to Risk Management within CNE Medical Group.
  12. Performs other job-related duties as required or requested.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or Registered Nursing degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of five to seven years’ experience in healthcare risk management required.
  3. Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.
