In 2024 Pembroke College celebrated its 400th anniversary and in 2025 we launched our most ambitious campaign for the future, seeking to invest £100m in teaching, research, scholarship, and our people and estate.

We are now seeking a new Director of Operations to join us at this important moment in our history. We are loyal to our historic purpose while aiming to be the college of choice in the world's greatest University. Situated on a beautiful historic site in the heart of Oxford, we have 55 Fellows and 670 students. We are an innovative and forward-looking college with an inclusive, very friendly community.

Role Overview

The Director of Operations, a key member of the College, will be responsible for the day-to-day management and long-term planning of operational teams. The role has oversight of a wide range of functions, including Catering, Accommodation, Conferencing and Events, Housekeeping, the Porters' Lodge, and Front of House. The postholder will lead a strong team of departmental managers, continuing to empower and support them in their development. The Director of Operations will work closely with the College's Master, Bursar, Academic Director, Fellows, operational staff and students, promoting collaborative working across the College. The postholder must ensure the delivery of excellent and sustainable operational services aligned with the College's academic mission and values.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced operational leader with a proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary functions and large teams. The successful candidate will be adaptable, flexible, and committed to the College community. They will be able to gain the confidence and trust of multiple constituencies, both within the College and externally. The Director of Operations will help deliver our long-term strategy by contributing to key committees and decision-making processes, supporting the strategic development of the College and securing its purpose for future generations.
