Job description

Make a Difference Where It Matters Most

AtRethink Mental Illness, we believe everyone severely affected by mental illness deserves a life of dignity, hope, and opportunity. As a leading national charity, we deliver over 90 services across England and campaign for systemic change. We are now seeking a passionate Director of Neighbourhood Healthto join our Executive Team and help shape the future of mental health support in the UK.

About the Role

The Director of Neighbourhood Health will lead the organisation’s strategic approach to place-based mental health transformation, responding to growing national policy focus on neighbourhood working and integrated care. This includes the NHS Long Term Plan, 10 Year Health Plan for England, the development of Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, and community mental health transformation efforts.

This is a pivotal role focused on translating national policy into local delivery, shaping our strategic direction in neighbourhood health, and amplifying our leadership as a trusted delivery and influencing partner. The postholder will lead the continued development and delivery of our Lead Accountable Body (LAB) programmes and support the growth of high-impact, equitable partnerships across local systems.

This is more than a delivery role—it’s a system leadership role. The Director will work across organisational boundaries, ensuring neighbourhood health is a driver of innovation, influence, and sustainable growth, while maintaining close coordination with our policy, operations, and development teams.

What We’re Looking For

As Director of Neighbourhood Health, you’ll bring strategic oversight to our growing portfolio of Lead Accountable Body programmes across Somerset, Tower Hamlets, Sheffield, and Coventry & Warwickshire. But this is not just about programme management, it’s about vision, leadership, and systems thinking. We’re looking for someone who can hold space between local complexity and national policy, and who understands that true transformation happens through collaboration, trust, and community power.

You’ll be joining a committed and ambitious senior team, working alongside leaders in service delivery, policy, fundraising, and operations. We are a values-led organisation with a strong sense of purpose. We’re looking for someone who shares that energy, and who wants to help shape a fairer, more connected future for mental health.
