Temporary, Full Time Fixed Term Contract 12 months

The role

The Director will lead the Marketing & Business Development team to support the achievement of the firm’s strategy and plans, raising the firm’s profile and reputation, developing new and existing clients and work, and managing the firm’s external and internal communications. They will act as an independent and trusted advisor across the firm on all Marketing & BD matters and be the Business Services lead on both the Marketing and Client Coordination Task Groups.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, with close working relationships with the Managing Partner, Task Group leads, Practice Group Leaders and other Business Services Departmental Leaders.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop Marketing & BD activity plans and objectives aligned to the firm’s vision and values, strategy and Practice Group and client plans.
  • Lead and develop a highly professional BD & Marketing team.
  • Work alongside the lead partners on the Marketing and Client Coordination Task Groups in the effective operation of those groups and the execution of resulting initiatives.
  • Manage client and referrer firm development efforts firm-wide including coordination and planning, relationship management and trips, relevant reporting and CRESS sites.
  • Manage and oversee Marketing & BD support for pitches and proposals, providing information, developing materials and establishing templates and collateral as required to ensure deadlines are met and accurate information is provided.
  • Oversee the use and development of the firm’s CRM system (Introhive) and its application in the growth and management of client and referrer relationships.
  • Manage client listening & referrer listening programmes for the firm Supporting the Managing Partner in the execution of the established plan.
  • Lead and develop an integrated communications strategy for the firm both externally and internally including the use of digital marketing and social media and other channels as appropriate. This will include planning and execution for key projects such as:
    • Carpmaels & Ransford website project
    • Carpmaels & Ransford 250th Anniversary celebration plans
  • Oversee the firm’s directory and awards submissions and manage the submissions as part of ongoing programme to maintain and build the firm’s reputation in the market. This includes managing the relationship with external agency support and providing support and guidance to the Marketing & BD Manager as required.
  • Oversee and coordinate press and PR related activities (including crisis PR) of the firm including relationships with relevant journalists and publications and the use of external agencies as required.
  • Responsible for firm visual identity, brand guidelines, websites, presentation and other templates and marketing collateral.
  • Represent Marketing & BD at partner level meetings and partner away days as required, engaging with the partnership and providing expert professional advice on Marketing & BD matters.
  • Develop and report upon key measures of Marketing & BD activity across the firm.
  • Manage Marketing & BD costs and review and report upon expenditure.
  • Work collaboratively with other Business Services leaders and Departments.
  • Oversee and deliver Client management and referrer management plans to the agreed framework.
  • Oversee the delivery of internal comms and provide content guidance to the Communications manager (including the Internal newsletter).
  • Day to day team management including weekly team meetings, monthly 1:1 CPD focused meetings with reports, pay reviews, appraisals, prioritisation and advice.
  • Trip reporting process and collation of information.
  • Newsflashes / Oversight of all Marketing Comms.
  • Project support and collaboration with the project teams, particularly on comms requirements.
  • Ability to manage the multiple workloads of the wider team and step in to support as and when required.
Skills And Experience We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience of building and leading a Marketing & BD function.
  • Strong team management and development skills with a focus on developing a highly professional and expert team.
  • Broad experience of managing and implementing a diverse set of marketing and business development programmes, ideally in a professional services environment.
  • An appreciation and understanding of Intellectual Property and the market for legal services would be an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and professionally and personally credible at Partnership level.
  • A collegiate approach and keen to work with other Business Services departments and the wider firm.
  • Calm under pressure and able to handle and prioritise multiple competing demands.
  • Excellent communication skills, with an eye for detail.
  • Positive, tenacious and keen to drive initiatives forward.

The recruitment process

What We Offer
