Salary: £61,707-£70,873 (L7-L13 Outer London) + Performance and Loyalty Bonus + Cash Plan + Pension Scheme (TPS) + Additional Benefits

About the Role:

An opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced teacher to take on the role of Director of Learning: English. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high standards of teaching and learning within the English department, continuously developing and enhancing the quality of education provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Student Progress and Development: Accountable for student progress across Key Stages 3, 4, and post-16, including meeting achievement targets as agreed by the Principal and Governing Body.
  2. Teaching and Learning: Ensure high standards by continuously developing and enhancing teaching quality within the department.
  3. Curriculum Provision: Provide an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum in line with the academy's aims and policies.
  4. Policy Implementation: Ensure consistent application of all school policies and procedures by staff within the subject area.
  5. Tutor Programme: Implement the agreed tutor programme effectively, ensuring tutors perform their roles efficiently.
  6. Behaviour for Learning: Maintain effective behaviour management strategies throughout the faculty.
  7. Resource Management: Efficiently manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial, and physical resources within the department.

Areas of Responsibility:
  1. Operational and Strategic Planning: Conduct rigorous self-evaluation and review of subject performance, formulate improvement plans, and lead the development of syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessments, and teaching strategies.
  2. Curriculum Delivery: Ensure the delivery of a comprehensive, high-quality, and cost-effective curriculum, leading the development of the subject and its delivery.
  3. Staff Development: Recruit, build, and manage an effective team of motivated staff.
  4. Student Outcomes: Ensure effective operation of target setting, monitoring, and evaluation systems, maintaining accurate student data.
  5. Pastoral System: Act as a form tutor to a selected group of students, providing guidance and support.
  6. Teaching: Serve as an outstanding role model in teaching practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will:
  1. Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent and possess a relevant undergraduate degree.
  2. Be an excellent teacher with a minimum of two years' teaching experience.
  3. Have a proven track record of raising student achievement.
  4. Demonstrate experience in leading others and ensuring high-quality performance.
  5. Possess experience in presenting to diverse audiences, including teachers, managers, students, and parents.
  6. Understand creative whole-school strategies for improving literacy and numeracy and recognise their importance in raising achievement.
  7. Have experience leading cross-subject initiatives that have contributed to raising achievement.
