Responsibilities


Job Summary


As a member of the Pharmacy/Research Enterprise leadership team, the director will provide programmatic, compliance, and strategic oversight and coordination of all aspects of investigational drug services across the pharmacy enterprises. The Pharmacy Director in the area of Investigational Drugs will oversee clinical, operational, financial, regulatory, and human resources management of all research and investigational drug services. The director works directly with research and medical staff leadership, nursing, and pharmacy to promote practices that achieve quality outcomes and medication safety, contributing to the overall success of the research enterprise.


The director champions inter-functional collaboration and communication across work areas and multi-site pharmacy departments.


Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy for their respective site.

  • Serves as the primary leader responsible for program oversight and all pharmacy research-related matters. Ensures compliance with all regulatory standards and proper investigational drug product accountability and documentation. Works with IDS, HRI leadership, nursing, physicians, pharmacists, and other department managers to promote safe and effective use of investigational drugs. Provides oversight over investigational drug dose preparation and dispensing. Ensures oversight of monitoring visits and audits of the clinical research pharmacy. Engages with senior leadership on program expansion and changes. Leads clinical and investigational initiatives through affiliations with organizations such as NCCN, HOPA, ASH, ASCO, SWOG, COG to advance the clinical program.

  • Sets an example in work quality, efficiency, productivity, and conduct. Monitors staff productivity and implements improvements. Ensures services are delivered within budget. Manages budgets, compares actuals to budgets, and recommends cost containment strategies. Collaborates on solutions to meet organizational objectives.

  • Attracts, retains, and develops high-quality clinical pharmacy staff. Ensures staff training and competency. Promotes inter-functional collaboration across pharmacy services. Conducts staff meetings and performance reviews. Resolves departmental issues with a customer service attitude.

  • Develops departmental policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to all relevant policies, laws, and regulations, including FDA, DNV, and state laws. Acts as liaison with internal and external stakeholders to maintain program integrity.

  • Represents the pharmacy enterprise on research committees. Participates in hospital, health system, and pharmacy organization committees and professional organizations.

Qualifications


Education

Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy required.


Experience

10 years of pharmacy practice or equivalent required. 3 years of research medication experience required. 2 years of pharmacy operations and supervisory experience required.


Licenses and Certifications

Registered Pharmacist (RPh). Must obtain Arizona licensure within 90 days.
