Job Description

About Hereward College

Hereward College is a further education college like no other, passionate about improving life opportunities for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Our provision is delivered across a range of course areas, including Art & Design, Creative Media, Sport, Business Studies, ICT, Hospitality, Performing Arts & Music, English and Maths. This provision ranges from Pre-Entry Level to Level 3.

Our learners are supported by a dedicated team of 230 staff, many of whom deliver education, training, care and specific therapies. Whilst our learners may have a physical disability, a communication disorder or other learning difficulties, the one thing they will all have in common is a personal ambition to live a happy, independent and successful life. Through the dedication and passion of our staff, we can help our learners realise their ambitions by achieving some wonderful outcomes with our young people.

About the role

To ensure that we can continue to deliver high-quality, individualised provision for our learners and support for their families, we need to ensure that we maintain a culture focused on success, ambition and above all else, inclusion.

Our new Director of Governance will be the primary advisor on all matters relating to governance whilst also being the lead coordinator of effective communication between our Chair of Governors, our external governors, our staff and student governors, our Principal and CEO and other senior leaders.

Who we are looking for

We are looking to appoint an experienced and qualified governance professional with previous experience as Director of Governance, Governance Lead, Head of Governance and/or Board/Company Secretary.

Whilst we would ideally like candidates to have experience in supporting a further education governing body, what is more important to us is your ability to quickly grasp the legislative requirements expected of our Board and the regulatory environment in which our College operates.

It is vital that you have a strong desire to work for a forward-thinking, ambitious, specialist education provider which actively enhances the life chances of all who engage with us.

Given the breadth of this senior role and the specialist provision that we offer, we are looking for a motivated self-starter who can share our values, ethos, and passion for working with our learners and our governing body.

Open and approachable in your manner, you will have the ability to build relationships, scrutinise our policies and have the confidence to challenge our processes, ultimately leading us to constantly develop and improve our structures and systems.

You will play a vital role as the ‘conscience’ of the College, providing independent high-quality guidance on constitutional, operational, procedural and ethical issues that affect the Board, its committees and their ability to direct organisational strategy.

We are proud that our College is a hive of activity, where no day is the same, and where our staff and students create a community within itself.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Peridot Partners and Hereward College are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
