The Role:

This is a unique opportunity to lead and scale a modern engineering organisation while remaining close to the technology. As Director of Engineering, you'll act as a "player-coach"—responsible for growing and mentoring a team of 14-20 engineers, guiding architecture and delivery practices, and driving technical and cultural transformation.

You'll take ownership of team performance, agile process improvement, and cross-functional delivery, while embedding a culture of feedback, continuous learning, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Hire, mentor, and grow high-performing engineers and leaders
2. Lead architecture and technical direction across full-stack teams
3. Promote pragmatic, scalable solutions that deliver clear business value
4. Improve agile practices to boost velocity and quality
5. Drive a culture of transparency, trust, and team empowerment
6. Partner with product and business stakeholders on roadmap alignment
7. Guide adoption of DevOps, automation, and monitoring practices
8. Support career development and create progression paths for engineers
9. Lead complex, cross-team initiatives and remove delivery blockers
10. Require 5+ years in engineering leadership, with at least 1 year at Director level
11. Manage 10+ engineers and scale high-performing teams
12. Have a strong background in Java, C#, or other object-oriented languages
13. Possess a solid understanding of Lean or Kanban software practices
14. Be a skilled communicator and coach, comfortable leading cross-functional delivery
15. Have experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and modern DevOps practices
16. Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
