Job summary

The BoTree, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, seeks an exceptional Director of Engineering to lead the hotel’s technical function and engineering team. You will ensure safe, efficient and seamless operations, while upholding the highest standards and guest experience.

You will drive maintenance programs, manage external contracts, and lead sustainability initiatives, with a focus on safety, compliance and financial stewardship.

Qualifications

  • Senior engineering leadership experience in luxury hotel environments.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical, fire safety and maintenance.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Familiarity with KnowCross and Alert65 systems.

Responsibilities

About The BoTree

We are looking for an exceptional Director of Engineering to lead our Engineering Team. This role plays a key part in ensuring the hotel operates safely, efficiently and seamlessly, while maintaining the highest engineering standards and supporting an exceptional guest experience. Working closely with the hotel leadership team and operational departments, you will lead the Engineering function, manage external contractors and oversee maintenance, compliance and sustainability initiatives across the hotel.

This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week, with a flexible rota including weekends.

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the Engineering Team, ensuring smooth daily operations and safety compliance.
  • Oversee maintenance projects and activities and manage external engineering contracts.
  • Ensure guest satisfaction through efficient and effective technical support.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives and energy-saving projects.
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets, controlling payroll and expenses.
  • Foster a culture of safety, compliance and excellence across the Engineering function.
  • Support team training and development to maintain high standards.
  • Participate in Executive Duty Management weekend shifts as required.
  • Work collaboratively with operational departments to ensure technical issues are resolved efficiently and the hotel operates seamlessly.
  • Ensure engineering records, compliance documentation and contractor information are maintained accurately.

About You

You will have extensive experience in a senior engineering role within a luxury hotel environment, with the technical knowledge and leadership capability to manage a busy hotel Engineering function.

Confident and solutions-focused, you will take pride in maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and operational performance while ensuring technical issues are resolved efficiently.

You bring strong leadership, a collaborative approach and a passion for luxury hospitality, sustainability and guest satisfaction.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Experience in senior engineering roles within luxury hotels.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, fire safety and related maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Management Systems [BMS]
  • Specific knowledge of our in-house systems - KnowCross and Alert65.
  • Proven leadership, team management and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Harri, team scheduling, progress reviews and HOD responsibilities.
  • A passion for sustainability, luxury hospitality and guest satisfaction.
  • Strong organisational and commercial skills, including budget, payroll and expense management.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours and operational demands.
