We're seeking a resourceful, forward-thinking, and multi-skilled Director of Commercial Operations to join our Senior Management Team at St Lukes Hospice Plymouth.

You will lead a vital part of our organization—growing and sustaining income to deliver compassionate end-of-life care and support, free of charge, to patients and their families.

This role offers a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership, commercial acumen, and cause-driven work within a well-respected, values-led charity committed to the community in Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall.

With annual operating costs exceeding £13 million, St Lukes employs around 300 staff and benefits from approximately 600 volunteers.

Your Impact

Supporting department heads in Retail, Fundraising, and Facilities, you will oversee income-generation activities with strategic and executive responsibility for:

  1. A successful retail estate with 23 shops and an e-commerce platform (net income target: £1.2 million+)
  2. Innovative fundraising and legacy programs (net income target: £3 million+)
  3. Non-clinical operations including estates, facilities, and hospitality
  4. Driving environmental sustainability initiatives
  5. Expanding commercial opportunities aligned with our values and mission
What You Will Bring To St Lukes
  • Proven strategic leadership in a commercial or income-generating environment
  • Deep understanding of retail, fundraising, or related business models
  • Financial expertise in managing multi-stream income targets and P&L
  • Commitment to sustainability and social impact
  • Inspirational, people-first, values-driven leadership
  • Ability to innovate with integrity and lead compassionately
Why St Lukes?

More than a hospice, we are a community. Join a collaborative, respectful, and passionate team driven by shared purpose.

As part of our Senior Management Team, you will influence how we support individuals during challenging times and sustain our care for future generations.
