Job description

The Director of Business Development is responsible for driving new customers and business growth of customer accounts. This position will develop business relationships with influencers & stakeholders within the respective client organizations and serve as lead point of contact for all client matters. The successful candidate will have a fundamental understanding of drug development and drug product technologies and services. The role requires building tight bonds with clients and ability to anticipate client needs, align solutions with needs for current and future proposals/business development, ensure deadlines are met for active on-going projects and proposals, and help customers realize success relative to collaborations, both current and in the future.

This role will join a highly skilled Business Development team that is strategically located throughout North America. The chosen candidate will focus on new client relationships within regions with growth opportunity to enhance customer service support while strengthening existing business relationships. Successful candidates will have strong sales experience in pharmaceutical development and manufacturing and remain within their preferred region but will require travel to the West Coast as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Generate new leads and opportunities leveraging the company’s and the incumbent’s network
  • Build solid, trusting, and measurable relationships with clients and companies while developing a complete understanding of client needs
  • Participate in client visits, regional and national trade shows, and conferences as required
  • Manage both existing pipeline and new business opportunities
  • Manage communications between customer and internal teams and assist with management of team activities assigned to each of your customers
  • Work with various internal stakeholders (e.g., Executive, Tech Ops, Project Mgmt, etc.) to build client relationships and improve customer results
  • Contribute to the development of proposals and presentations for new business development materials
  • Adeptly present capabilities and value proposition to new clients
  • Negotiate agreements as part of a team with BD, corporate, and legal leadership, including CDAs, MSAs, and commercial supply agreements
  • Identify market trends and customer needs, building a short/medium/long-term sales pipeline in accordance with targets

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent negotiation skills, with ability follow-through on customer contracts/management
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with CRM, Office and other related software
  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline, business, or marketing
  • 5-10+ years pharmaceutical drug product development experience with preference is given to candidates that have at least 2 years working in a client-facing capacity
  • Track record of technical leadership, including technical conference and client presentations
  • Candidates with a technical background and a desire to move into commercial role are encouraged to apply

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 25% travel required, and at times > 50% may be required
  • Travel will be domestic, with potential for international travel
