Debt Advisory

KPMG's Debt Advisory practice has a year history advising public and private clients on developing and executing debt financing strategies. The team's typical clients include listed companies, medium to large privately owned businesses and private equity / sponsor-backed entities. Its experience spans the spectrum of debt markets, financing instruments, asset classes, sectors and situations (including M&A, investment, new debt issues, refinancing and restructuring / amendments to debt facilities). The team operates sub-teams focusing on Corporates and Leveraged Finance, in addition to dedicated expertise specialising in financial services and real estate.

Role

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Build on KPMG's existing platform to drive profitable and diversified growth in Leveraged Finance Debt Advisory, with a view to making KPMG the #1 holistic Corporate Finance practice in the mid-market.
  • Lead the Debt Advisory team's Leveraged Finance strategy, including providing specialist debt advice related to financing activity to support M&A and other transactional activity (sell-side lender education processes, staple financings and buy-side financings).
  • Oversee standalone financing activity for private equity and other financial sponsor-backed businesses (acquisition financing, buy and build, refinancings and recapitalisations, renegotiations).
  • Drive growth funding to raise leveraged finance capital to improve financial performance and shareholder value.
  • Collaborate with debt advisory, M&A colleagues and other service lines to originate and execute debt advisory and/or corporate finance mandates across strategic formulation to successful transaction completion.
  • Participate in key Corporate Finance relationship management with clients, sponsors and multipliers, and leverage wider firm capabilities to originate new business opportunities.
  • Support a national remit across the United Kingdom with potential cross-border transactions.
  • Lead and develop the Leveraged Finance strategy alongside other senior debt advisory leaders to grow the business and capture market potential.
  • Contribute to the wider Corporate Finance growth strategy and enable debt advisory to support broader competitiveness and synergy.
Leadership & Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and growth of our leveraged finance offering in conjunction with Debt Advisory, Corporate Finance and wider firm colleagues.
  • Support business development within key private equity relationships and lender communities and assist with broader Corporate Finance activities.
  • Drive deal origination using internal and external networks to secure debt advisory mandates standalone or as part of a Corporate Finance proposition for M&A activity.
  • Manage internal relationships to leverage the firm’s reach and senior relationships.
  • Ensure rigorous and efficient execution delivery with high client satisfaction.
  • Develop, coach and motivate an experienced team, balancing external origination with delivery capability.
  • Establish credibility and manage strong relationships with external parties including intermediaries and other advisors.
  • Play a central role in key decision making and the ongoing development of Debt Advisory and Corporate Finance.
The Person – Experience, Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong academic & technical background (ACA, CFA, ACT, MBA or equivalent).
  • Significant experience within debt advisory in an investment bank, Big 4 or equivalent financial advisory business, debt advisory boutique, private equity team, or corporate treasury role.
  • A proven track record of contributing to the origination of debt advisory mandates or lead debt structuring roles.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and strategic thinking skills and experience in financial modelling.
  • Significant transactional experience with deal execution across all phases from origination to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills with the credibility to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Personable approach with the ability to build trust with colleagues and clients.
  • Proven track record in building, motivating and empowering teams; experience in managing high-calibre teams.
  • Personal drive to deliver results with ambition to impact a growing team.
