Director Global Corporate Government Affairs & Policy

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an intellectually curious self-starter with a good understanding of life sciences. You will take on a critical and varied role within the Corporate Affairs department and will be responsible primarily for a senior GSK leader’s external engagement, thought leadership, and profile-raising activities including stakeholder events. This involves a geographical focus on the EU and UK as well as opportunities to work with GSK teams in markets around the world.

Alongside this, you will work closely with the VP Global Corporate Government Affairs & Policy on geopolitical policy and analysis and there is potential for wider support to the VP on a range of interesting projects and topics. The role will be based in the Global Corporate Government Affairs & Policy (GCGAP) team within Corporate Affairs, and will work closely with colleagues across the business and a variety of external stakeholders.

You should be highly accountable and self-motivated, with top-tier written communication skills and an ability to work at pace and with agility across multiple priorities. You must also possess the interpersonal skills to work closely with senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

External engagement

  • Shape and deliver senior leader policy and stakeholder engagement across life sciences, healthcare and broader business/finance policy areas.

  • Help to shape and deliver a major VIP event in Autumn 2025.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the life sciences policy and business environment, horizon scanning policy and media developments of relevance, to support you in delivering timely, compelling and effective engagement.

  • Deliver necessary senior leader support including preparing for stakeholder meetings, attending meetings and events and delivering follow up actions.

  • Create and be accountable for a forward engagement plan to proactively progress agreed leader priorities; and conceive and lead on specific policy/thought leadership content and profile-raising opportunities or events as part of this. Track and drive delivery of programmes to ensure actions are completed in a timely manner.

  • Working with colleagues, support senior leader engagement in cross-sector trade associations in the UK and EU.

  • Work with colleagues to shape senior leader engagement programmes in key geographies. You will work closely with the VP, GCGAP, SVP Corporate and Commercial CGA, and Regional and Local teams to connect and align global, regional and local insights and objectives.

Geopolitical policy and analysis

  • Ensure effective use of agency, trade association, colleague and other insights to build an up-to-date analysis and understanding of key geopolitical (inc trade and economic security) developments and trends relevant to GSK, using AI tools to support and enhance your work.

  • Build new and existing channels to share this with colleagues and support capability building in the team and wider Communications and Government Affairs function.

  • Attend relevant external events to gain geopolitical insights and represent GSK at stakeholder discussions, as needed.

  • Support delivery of effective and targeted engagement with key embassies and diplomatic networks, including maintaining relationships with priority embassies in London, as well as triaging requests for GSK site visits and meetings in the UK and supporting senior leader engagements as needed.

Content development

  • Support senior speaking engagements – provide advice on prioritisation of invitations, liaise with organisers on content and write briefs, speaking notes and presentations to a high standard.

  • Shape, research and deliver think pieces, policy content, speaking notes and presentations for use in a variety of contexts and with a variety of audiences.

  • Demonstrated experience of advising senior leaders and supporting leaders to deliver their goals

  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills, in English

  • Strong PowerPoint skills

  • A self-starter who is willing to take on responsibility

  • Sound judgement, with high personal and business integrity

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Track record of successful internal and external stakeholder engagement to build trusted relationships

  • Government affairs or policy experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or experience

Preferred requirements:

  • Understanding and experience of policy issues facing the pharmaceutical industry

  • Able to work on multiple priorities at pace

  • Communications experience

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and change; able to be flexible and remain focused to achieve goals in a complex environment
