Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join DfE as Director General, Families Group, where the successful candidate will lead a dynamic and multidisciplinary Group dedicated to improving outcomes for children in every aspect of their early years, education, and care. The new DG Families Group will spearhead key reforms in childcare expansion, children's social care, safeguarding, and family services - delivering on the government’s ambitious commitments, including the rollout of the Families First Partnership Programme, multi-agency child protection teams, and expanded nursery provision in primary schools. They will also drive innovations like the introduction of a single unique identifier for children to improve support for those in complex circumstances.

Person specification

DfE is looking for an accomplished leader with a strong track record of driving implementation of major change programmes across complex delivery landscapes, working in powerful partnerships with local government, the private and third sectors, and other partners to change things for the better. This person will need exceptional skills in engaging and influencing at senior levels, both within and outside Government, and an outstanding record of people leadership.

Alongside your salary of £145,000, Department for Education contributes £42,006 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.
