Job summary

Computer Futures / SThree Group is seeking an Embedded Software Engineering Manager to lead and develop a team responsible for software for advanced control and drive systems. The role combines people leadership with technical oversight and delivery responsibility.

You will manage 5–15 engineers, shaping engineering strategy and ensuring robust software practices across multiple projects within industrial, scientific or semiconductor environments.

Qualifications

• Strong embedded software knowledge and experience in leading software teams.
• Experience delivering software for physical electromechanical products.
• Knowledge of hardware/software integration and system validation.
• Familiarity with control systems, drives, motors or related technologies.
• Experience with structured software development lifecycles and modern engineering practices.
• Ability to manage resources and plan across multiple programmes.
• Strong stakeholder communication and governance abilities.
• Experience coaching, mentoring and performance development of engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of ~5–15 embedded software engineers.
• Deliver embedded software and HMI solutions across complex products.
• Provide technical leadership across the full SDLC from requirements to release.
• Define and improve software engineering standards, processes and practices.
• Collaborate with electronics, hardware, systems, test, manufacturing and project teams.
• Manage software resources and project delivery timescales.
• Identify capability gaps and mentor the team to address future needs.
• Coach engineers to foster technical excellence and continuous improvement.
• Support resource planning, budgeting, supplier management and forecasting.
• Shape the future structure and capability of the software function.
