Job summary

Spectris seeks a Director of Digital Engineering to define and run the organization’s digital platforms and engineering capabilities. You will shape strategy, architecture, and operations for IoT, AI, analytics, and customer-facing services to deliver scalable, secure digital products driving growth.

You will lead teams, establish modern practices (cloud-native, API-first, CI/CD), and partner with executives to accelerate transformation and value delivery across the business.

Qualifications

• Must-have leadership experience in Digital Engineering, Software Engineering, Digital Platforms, Technology, or related discipline.
• Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale platforms across IoT, AI/ML, analytics, cloud tech, and customer-facing apps.
• Strong understanding of modern architecture: cloud-native, API-first, event-driven, platform-based.
• Experience leading software engineering organisations and implementing Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, modern delivery practices.
• Strong commercial awareness aligning technology investment with business objectives and customer needs.
• Excellent stakeholder management and ability to influence executive leadership and drive cross-functional change.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the Digital Engineering strategy across IoT, AI, analytics, customer apps, and digital services.
• Lead development and operation of enterprise digital platforms, including IoT ecosystems, AI capabilities, analytics platforms, and customer engagement solutions.
• Establish architecture standards, governance, and modern engineering practices for scalability, security, reliability, and innovation.
• Drive platform modernisation, cloud adoption, automation, and technology roadmaps to enable growth.
• Build and lead high-performing engineering teams with a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Partner with commercial, product, service, and operations leaders to deliver exceptional customer experiences and accelerate digital transformation.

About the role:

As Director of Digital Engineering, you will be responsible for defining, building, and operating the organization’s digital technology platforms and engineering capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of business strategy, digital innovation, and technology execution, ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-performing digital products that create customer value and support business growth. You will lead the strategy, architecture, development, and operation of key digital platforms, including IoT, AI, Analytics, customer-facing applications, and digital services. Working closely with business and technology leaders, you will drive digital transformation initiatives, establish engineering best practices, and build a high-performing organization capable of delivering world-class digital experiences.

What you’ll be doing:

About you:

• Significant leadership experience within Digital Engineering, Software Engineering, Digital Platforms, Technology, or a related discipline.
• Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale platforms across areas such as IoT, AI/ML, analytics, cloud technologies, and customer-facing digital applications.
• Strong understanding of modern architecture principles including cloud-native, API-first, event-driven, and platform-based approaches.
• Experience leading software engineering organisations and implementing Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and modern software delivery practices.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to align technology investment and digital strategy with business objectives and customer needs.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience influencing executive leadership teams and driving cross-functional change.
