Job summary

Capstone Property Recruitment is seeking an Associate Director / Director for Development Monitoring in London. The role focuses on a 500,000+ sq ft commercial development, currently in early concept design, with base-build works expected to commence later this year.

You will provide senior technical and commercial oversight, liaising with clients, consultants and contractors, and guiding design management, programme and contractual processes throughout the project lifecycle.

Associate Director / Director – Development Monitoring

London | Permanent

We’re working with a leading London consultancy looking to appoint an Associate Director / Director within its Development Monitoring team.

The role will initially focus on a major 500,000+ sq ft commercial development in London. The project is currently in early concept design, with base-build works expected to commence towards the end of the year.

The Role

You’ll provide senior technical and commercial oversight across a complex development, working directly with the client, consultants and contractors.

The project includes:

• Base-build development monitoring
• Major façade works
• Structural / cut-and-carve interventions
• MEP coordination
• Design management
• Technical quality and construction oversight
• Scope and package interface management
• Contract administration
• Programme and commercial oversight
• Consultant and contractor management

The role needs someone who can understand what is happening technically and commercially, identify issues and scope gaps, challenge the project team and provide clear advice to the client.

Background

This is not limited to candidates from traditional Project Management consultancies.

Relevant backgrounds could include:

• Design Management
• Main Contracting
• Architecture
• Civil / Structural Engineering
• Building Surveying
• Development Monitoring
• Technical Project Management
• Clerk of Works / Quality Management

A Senior Design Manager, Design Lead or Technical Manager from a main contractor could be particularly relevant, provided you have strong client-facing and commercial experience.

You don’t need experience across every area, but ideally you’ll have exposure to several of the following:

The Person

You’ll need to be technically credible, commercially aware and confident operating directly with senior clients.

The team is collaborative, so they’re looking for someone who can operate autonomously while working closely with the wider project team and supporting more junior colleagues.

This could be a strong next move for someone with a technical construction background who has developed broader project, commercial and client responsibility and is ready to step into a senior Development Monitoring position.
