Purpose of the role

To lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives.

Accountabilities

  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate and enhance engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
  • Collaborate with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Enforce technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

Director Expectations

  • Manage a business function, providing significant input to strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policies and procedures for the function and manage multiple strategic projects, which may be business-wide.
  • Manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other managers and embedding a performance culture aligned with business values. For individual contributors, lead organization-wide projects and act as a deep technical expert and thought leader.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management and committees to influence decisions outside of own function, offering significant input to strategic initiatives.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalate breaches of policies/procedures appropriately.
  • Ensure adherence to regulations and relevant processes.
  • Monitor and influence external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division/group to achieve overall objectives.
  • Maintain broad knowledge of industry theories, practices, and external market developments.
  • Use advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in complex/sensitive situations.
  • Make significant decisions and strategic recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact for key clients and counterparts.

The main purpose of the role is to provide engineering and architectural leadership for the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), supporting data modernization to the cloud, partnering with Data Migration, Cloud architecture & development, and Business teams to enable hybrid workloads on-premise and in the cloud, considering data gravity, jurisdiction, and egress.

The EDP offers standard tooling for data movement, quality assurance, storage, archiving, cataloging, access, manipulation, and consumption, facilitating data discoverability and accessibility for insights via ML and analytics.

Partner with architecture and development teams to execute data modernization strategies on the cloud, manage delivery of capabilities focusing on Hybrid Cloud and Event-Based solutions, ensure adherence to technical standards and SDLC, promote Agile practices, and encourage learning of new technologies within the team.
