The Director of Construction (OnsCon) role requires comprehensive construction, management, and business expertise. The Director leads through subordinate managers of managers, executes functional business plans, and contributes to the development of the functional strategy. Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent on-the-job experience.
- Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in industrial construction projects with knowledge of construction planning.
- Knowledge of AWP as a project management methodology and familiarity with all project lifecycle phases.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly.
- Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel and Access.
- Leadership experience and ability to influence at a professional level.
- Advanced understanding of construction sequencing and techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail, with proven ability to meet deadlines, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
- Energetic, positive, enthusiastic, with a can-do attitude.
- Respected for integrity, work ethic, and professionalism.
- Understanding of organizational structures relevant to Workforce Planning.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for project construction execution and formulating a competent construction plan.
- Oversee construction activities at the job site, ensuring adherence to schedule and budget, and managing changes as needed.
- Ensure safety, quality, client interface, construction operations, cost, and schedule are maintained, with a focus on labor productivity risk management.
- Understand contract requirements thoroughly.
- Manage the performance of all on-site construction operations and support departments including field management, quality, safety, material management, procurement, engineering, HR, and others.
- Identify and evaluate suitable subcontractors for execution and strategic partnerships.
- Maintain alignment with the construction plan, continuously assessing and updating it, and communicating requirements within the project team.
- Coordinate with other teams to ensure availability of labor, equipment, and materials.
- Ensure construction work stays within budget and schedule constraints.
- Develop accurate field estimates and schedules.
- Resolve problems promptly and ensure procedures are followed.
- Promote open and honest communication to foster excellent customer relationships.
- Represent MDR as part of the total project team, including owners, contractors, and community.
- Delegate responsibilities and approve expenditures and budget revisions.
- Handle contract changes fairly and promptly, maintaining strong client relationships.
- Develop and maintain Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and coordinate with Engineering and Supply Chain to develop the Path of Construction (PoC) for AWP-compliant scheduling.
- Guide the project team in applying AWP, IM, and WFP throughout the project lifecycle.
- Create templates, guidelines, and training plans as needed.
- Align functions on CWP definitions and boundaries.
- Work with Engineering and Procurement to set key deliverables and track adherence to the PoC.
- Coordinate with Project Controls, IM, and Engineering IT to configure AWP/WFP tools and ensure subcontractor compliance.
- Foster AWP procedures and continuous improvement.
