Position: Specimen Digitisation Technician

You will be responsible for specimen digitisation to support the Museum’s Digital, Data and Informatics Theme. As part of the Digitisation Team, you will work with museum collections, curatorial teams, and Data Management Team to capture digital images of specimens and their associated data.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Handling and digitising specimens, including photography, transcription, georeferencing, and databasing.
  2. Trialling new digitisation workflows and tools.
  3. Recording accurate information about workflows for evaluation and monitoring.
  4. Sharing best practices through reports, posters, and presentations.
  5. Supporting publishing of specimen datasets and research papers.
  6. Contributing to team communication and social media content.

Qualifications include:

  • Experience in natural sciences or a related discipline.
  • Experience in collections digitisation, recuration, or conservation projects.
  • Knowledge of collections metadata and management systems.
  • Proficiency with cloud-based document tools (Office or Google Docs).
  • Experience in data verification across various formats.
  • Ability to work in a team and handle small, fragile objects with manual dexterity.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow complex workflows.
