About the Department

The Digital Workplace Engineering team is a vital part of the Digital Workplace Services. The team collaborates across the Group COO, business stakeholders, Centers of Excellence, and Product Owners. It is responsible for creating and delivering our Digital Workplace technology roadmap, maintaining a modern, secure, and cost-efficient service. We are passionate about enhancing colleague experience and providing an evergreen service to our business.

About the Role

The Digital Workplace Engineer will work within a cross-functional team, focusing on continuously improving our Digital Workplace Technology, especially End User Compute. This hands-on technical role requires experience in designing and administering Intune, Entra, Windows Desktop, and core infrastructure services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage changes across Aberdeen’s EUC/Desktop estate.
  • Ensure stability and security of the EUC Global Desktop environment through effective assurance and assessment of Windows desktops, Microsoft M365 tenant, and third-party software.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to proactively improve services.
  • Drive adoption of Microsoft services, reviewing usage and telemetry data.
  • Implement controls to enhance CIS and Secure Scores.
  • Focus on FinOps: create visibility around EUS costs, identify savings, and manage departmental budgets through controls and reporting.
  • Contribute to delivering the EUC roadmap and backlog.
  • Respond to audits related to regulatory requirements and manage RCSA controls.
  • Participate in resolving outages, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
  • Create and communicate knowledgebase articles, monitor tech trends, and seek continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Implement and mature controls for Windows OS & M365 evergreen updates, aligning with Aberdeen’s risk framework and regulatory standards.
  • Enhance desktop security, reduce attack surfaces, and implement desktop hardening techniques like CIS.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience managing/supporting IT systems and platforms.
  • Experience with digital employee experience tools, endpoint management, analytics, and automation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and manage priorities.
  • Proficiency in an ITIL environment.
  • Experience applying continuous engineering and agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of automation and AI/ML for continuous improvement.

Technical Skills

The candidate should have a proven track record with EUC and Windows Desktop technologies, including recent certifications in:

  • Intune, SCCM, Entra ID, Active Directory, Group Policy.
  • Deploying evergreen OS and M365 changes, Autopilot at scale.
  • Microsoft Defender (AV, EDR, ASR).
  • Application management via Intune, SCCM, Azure; App Attach experience is a plus.
  • Azure Virtual Desktop and Nerdio experience is beneficial.
  • Implementing zero trust initiatives.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell.
  • Scripting for remediation and performance issues.
  • Desktop and application virtualization.
