Job summary

The University of Sheffield invites applications for a postdoctoral/early career researcher to advance digital twin development for CO2-to-fuel reactors within the DigiTwin-FT project. You will build physics-informed models, handle large pilot-plant datasets, and collaborate with Siemens to align digital twin architectures with industrial workflows.

The role requires a PhD in a relevant field and a strong background in surrogate modelling and data-driven techniques.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in a relevant field with research track record.
• Experience with physics-informed / data-driven modelling approaches.
• Background in chemical reaction engineering and reactor dynamics.
• Experience handling pilot-scale datasets for modelling.

Responsibilities

• Lead data extraction, cleaning, and structuring of pilot FT reactor datasets.
• Develop and validate hybrid physics-informed and surrogate models.
• Expose models to commercial boundary conditions and map hotspots.
• Perform TEA and LCA scoping with simulated outputs.
• Deliver Work Packages on time with robust documentation.
• Maintain version-controlled code and reproducible pipelines.
• Collaborate with Siemens and other partners to align digital twin architectures.
• Draft high-quality research manuscripts for journals.
• Assist with IP documentation and grant proposals.
