Job description

We have an exciting part-time opportunity for an enthusiastic and confident individual to join our Cyber Team as a Digital Media Investigator.

Our Digital Media Investigators work at the cutting edge of policing technology, finding innovative ways to bring offenders to justice. You will provide advice and support to stakeholders, including victims of cybercrime, so excellent interpersonal skills and empathy are essential for delivering satisfactory service.

Hours - 22.2 hours per week.

We seek someone with a solid understanding of complex crime investigation and digital evidence opportunities to support investigators across the force.

This role involves exposure to complex criminal cases, potentially involving offences against children, violence, and sexual offences.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical expertise and tactical advice to Senior Investigating Officers and Officers in Charge during investigations and inquiries.
  • Delivering presentations to enhance staff skills and improve the force’s digital investigation capabilities.
  • Gathering intelligence via open-source methods to optimize evidence collection and assist investigations.
  • Conducting digital examinations of computers, mobile phones, laptops, and other devices.
  • Attending crime scenes, arrests, and suspect interviews.
  • Managing an investigative workload responsibly.
  • Supporting proactive and covert operations to exploit digital opportunities.
  • Providing advice and guidance to victims of cybercrime.

Skills, experience, and qualifications required:

  • Must hold a full, current driving license to travel within the force area.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in investigations, open-source research, and intelligence gathering.
  • Confidence in handling complex criminal cases involving offences against children, violence, and sexual offences.
  • Ability to make decisions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of network processes and potential digital evidence sources.
  • Knowledge of cybercrime and prevention methods is desirable; holding a PIP Level 1 qualification or equivalent is preferred. Training will be provided if not held.

Additional Information:

If successful, you will start on pay scale 6, with opportunities for progression to SO1 and SO2 after additional training.

Applicants must have a 5-year checkable history in the UK, ideally residing in the UK for the last 5 years.
