Job Purpose

To utilize specialist skills and techniques to research, exploit, and capture information from online sources (including the dark web) to obtain intelligence that addresses the Threat, Risk, and Harm affecting Merseyside communities.

To contribute to the coordination of 'open source' operating procedures, policy, and best practices, acting as a central expertise point for 'Digital Media Investigators' across the organization.

Knowledge & Experience
  • Hold accreditation as a Digital Media Investigator (DMI) or be willing to attain it.
  • Previous experience in Operational Intelligence is desirable.
  • Be computer literate, with the ability to develop skills aligned with advances in digital media and conduct in-depth internet research.
  • Good knowledge of current Threat, Risk & Harm, Force priorities, and investigations related to Cyber Crime.
  • Proven communication skills and confidence to provide specialist advice and liaise at all levels internally and externally.
  • High self-motivation and ability to work under pressure with a flexible approach to changing circumstances.
  • Knowledge of RIPA and CPIA, with experience in making applications for Communications Data / Directed Surveillance being desirable.
  • Understanding of OSC Procedures and Guidance.
