Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Digital Media Artist to join our creative research team for the Dance Connects in Rural Border Regions project, funded by an award to Cavan County Council from the Creative Ireland ‘Creative Communities on a Shared Island’ Programme. The post-holder will support the creative practice and public engagement strands of the project in areas such as interactive installation co-design, installation touring support, and public engagement activities. The project is led by Professor of Dance Aoife McGrath, Queen's University Belfast, and social scientist Dr. Victoria Durrer, University College Dublin. A key activity involves collaborating with a choreographer to design and tour an interactive digital media installation that captures and projects visitors' movements in real time.

This is a part-time position, with options for 22.2 hours (0.6 FTE) or 25.9 hours (0.7 FTE). The contract runs from the appointment date until October 2025.

Additional information about the project: It involves local authorities of Cavan, Monaghan, and Fermanagh-Omagh, alongside researchers and dance practitioners, employing innovative engagement approaches that combine dance practice and social science to develop new methods of community engagement in rural border regions.

About the person:

We seek a candidate to undertake a creative practice and public engagement program under mentorship, including co-designing an interactive digital installation and managing a touring exhibition. Responsibilities include developing the project website, preparing digital materials for publication, and coordinating with venues for touring activities.

  • An academic or vocational qualification in digital arts or related discipline.
  • Experience in digital arts/media practice relevant to the project.
  • Skills in designing and implementing interactive technology for digital media, including real-time capture, motion sensing, coding, or immersive tech.
  • Experience in public engagement activities.
  • Proficiency in digital media design, social media, and online engagement tools.
  • Willingness to travel across Ireland and work outside regular hours if needed.

Please ensure your application clearly demonstrates how you meet the essential and desirable criteria listed in the Candidate Information.
