Base pay range

Location: This role is home-based, although travel will be required in the East of England.
Salary: From £52,000.00, depending on skills and experience.

Primary Job Purpose

The purpose is to engage with manufacturing clients and manage a portfolio of eligible SMEs on a digital adoption programme in the East of England, covering counties such as Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Essex, and Hertfordshire. The Digital Manufacturing Adviser will be the main contact for SME manufacturing clients, overseeing the relationship and coordinating internal and external support services.

Main Areas of Responsibility
  • Conduct factory tours to assess business competencies against digital transformation and support recommendations for digital improvement, including completing onsite digital roadmaps.
  • Provide advice on digital adoption benefits and assist SME manufacturers with independent expertise.
  • Assist clients in completing structured digital diagnostic assessments, deliver full reports, and evaluate business readiness per PAS1040:2019 guidelines.
  • Raise awareness of available support, including identifying clients for leadership training and workforce development programs.
  • Identify clients needing intensive technical support and connect them with local specialists.
  • Support clients with capital expenditure grant applications to ensure eligibility and readiness for panels.
  • Enhance regional engagement by signposting non-ready manufacturers to traditional support options.
  • Deliver programme elements to maximize impact on client growth and digital adoption, improving productivity and GVA.
  • Lead digital awareness workshops, using appropriate tools to identify issues and opportunities, and develop action plans.
About You

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least 5 years in business support or employer engagement, or equivalent skills.
  • Senior management experience in manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Experience in business development related to IDT adoption.
  • Proven ability to deliver business assessments and advice.
  • Experience working across broad geographical areas.
  • Account management experience in manufacturing/engineering.
  • Technical knowledge of IDT and familiarity with the IDT supplier network and demonstrators.
  • Knowledge of local and national business support organizations.
  • Customer-focused approach to SME engagement and growth.

  • Ability to assess business culture and identify barriers to digital adoption.
