Grade UE07: £40,497 to £48,149 per annum, pro-rata if part time

Department: ISG / Development and Systems / Digital Library

Work Hours: Full-time: 35 hours per week

Contract Type: Open-ended (permanent)

Would you like to be part of a dynamic development and systems team within the Digital Library at the University of Edinburgh? Our team develops innovative software solutions, installs, integrates, and supports third-party products, and actively participates in collaborative open-source projects.

The Opportunity:

This position will focus on development work for our digital preservation solution, designing and implementing workflows from various systems through Archivematica into long-term storage, working closely with the Digital Archivist. You will also work on tools supporting research data sharing and preservation, ensuring compliance with funder requirements for long-term storage.

This role is ideal for someone interested in cultural heritage and institutional history with strong API development, integration, and problem-solving skills. You will collaborate with colleagues across Library and University Collections and the wider university community, actively engaged in improving the Digital Preservation service. There is also an opportunity to contribute to the open-source community.

We seek a talented and passionate software developer with excellent technical and communication skills.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), but part-time or flexible working patterns are considered. Hybrid working (remote and on-campus) requests will also be considered on a non-contractual basis.

The salary range is £40,497 to £48,149 per annum.

Your skills and attributes for success:
  • Excellent software development skills, including requirements analysis and software design
  • Experience developing web applications using languages such as Java, PHP, or Python, with familiarity with web frameworks and APIs
  • Experience with source code version control, Release Management, and Automated Deployment/Continuous Integration tools
  • Ability to learn new technologies and apply skills effectively in various contexts
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with adaptability to changing requirements
