Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management, and development consultancy with over 20,000 employees across more than 50 countries and 140+ offices. We work across incredible global industries, delivering exciting work that is defining our future and making an important societal impact in the communities we serve. Our people power our performance – we succeed when they do. With countless opportunities to collaborate, learn, and grow, the possibilities for excellence are as varied as every individual.

Overview Of The Role

We are looking for a Digital Consultant to join our enthusiastic, ambitious and growing Information Management team. You will be part of our Information Management network, helping to implement the latest digital design delivery methods and improved ways of working across major projects. Our team works with a range of major project clients, predominantly within the transportation sector across the UK and North America. We focus on developing innovative digital project solutions that improve efficiency throughout the delivery of built environment projects.

This role offers the opportunity to apply and further develop your web development skills within the civil engineering sector, working on solutions that support our clients in achieving their Net Zero objectives. You will be part of a highly successful and innovative team, advising infrastructure-owning clients on the delivery of civil engineering assets, predominantly within transportation systems, including railways, roads, bridges and tunnels.

You will have the opportunity to be creative in developing information- and technology-based solutions to real-world challenges. This will involve obtaining, organising and extracting value from data, and using the resulting insights to help clients make well-informed decisions. Working collaboratively with engineers, technologists and other digital consultants, you will help develop and deliver solutions that make a positive contribution to the safety, performance and sustainability of our clients’ infrastructure, benefiting both clients and society.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing responsive and scalable high-quality software using agile methodologies.
  • Providing estimates and delivering work to agreed timeframes.
  • Working as part of a team to help define and develop approaches for deriving value from data, while independently undertaking specific analysis tasks.
  • Keeping up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in web development, and sharing knowledge across the wider team.
  • Cleaning, structuring and querying asset data, building analytical tools, and identifying patterns and trends.
  • Applying rigorous quality procedures for version control and maintaining audit trails throughout code development.
  • Researching and evaluating the potential application of new and emerging technologies for infrastructure data capture and analysis.
  • Helping to create decision-support tools that combine, contextualise and derive value from collected data.
  • Communicating findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences through written reports, visualisations, presentations, and verbal discussions.
Candidate Specification

Our ideal candidate will have a degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering and related experience in a similar role in software development.

You will work with a specialist team in developing solutions by producing high quality code in an agile environment. You will need to have primarily Python and React with SQL experience and enthusiasm to dive into different technologies with a ‘can do’ attitude.

Essential skills
  • Python
  • React, TypeScript, and JavaScript
  • MS SQL, NoSQL databases, and MongoDB
  • API design for streaming data
  • Azure services
  • Agile delivery methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Desired skills
  • .NET / C#
  • CI/CD
  • DevOps
  • Vulnerability management
  • Git commands and collaborative team workflows
  • Understanding of browser rendering behaviour and performance optimisation.

If you meet 80% or more of what we’re looking for, please still apply. We understand not everyone will meet all the requirements, but you might have skills we didn’t know we need.

UK Immigration
