CONTRACT TYPE: Freelance

CONTRAT DATES: 4th August – 13th December (Monday – Friday during prep. Tuesday - Saturday once in Studio)

DEPARTMENT: BBC Studios Kids & Family

LOCATION: Pacific Quay, Glasgow

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Market Rate

For roles in BBC Studios Productions you will be expected to work hours aligned with the production and genre you're in. This may exceed the standard 35 hour week. This is not a hybrid role.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Saturday Mash-Up! is looking for a Digital Content Researcher. You will come up with ideas and produce digital content to support the live show. You will be a social media expert, including TikTok, Instagram and YouTube; whether from running your own channel, supporting a TV programme in a similar role, or providing content to a channel like The Social. You will have up-to-date knowledge of trends and viral content, and enjoy connecting the show with its digitally native audience.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Contribute to brainstorms and pitch creative, digital ideas that reflect the interests and fun filled nature of the show’s young audience
  • Assist the Content Producer to develop and produce digital content that will stand out online and encourage the audience to engage
  • Monitor social media platforms daily to identify emerging trends, viral content, and youth-relevant topics that can inspire on-air segments
  • Source engaging user-generated content and secure necessary permissions for broadcast use, ensuring all material is editorially appropriate and rights-cleared.

Essential Critiera

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven ability to identify and interpret emerging trends, especially on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, with a focus on youth culture and digital engagement
  • Demonstrated experience in pitching original, fun, and interactive content ideas that resonate with a young audience and align with a show's tone and brand
  • Hands-on experience supporting the creation of digital content, including compliance and ensuring alignment with Saturday Mash-Up! brand
  • Experience of researching items and identifying potential content for the digital space. Ability to communicate ideas and thoughts clearly through written and verbal mediums

Desired But Not Required

  • Awareness of editorial standards and safeguarding policies relevant to children’s programming, ensuring all content is age-appropriate and legally compliant.
  • Experience of working with celebrity talent
  • Experience of shooting
  • Familiarity with Adobe software, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects
