About Us

The Shared Regulatory Service delivers the Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Licensing functions across the Bridgend, Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Council areas. The Service is proud to host the Wales Illegal Money Lending Unit operating as Stop Loan Sharks Wales which operates across Wales on behalf of all Welsh Local Authorities.

The team was established to tackle the problem of Illegal Money Lending in Wales, taking strong action against Loan Sharks and supporting their victims. The team promote the work of Stop Loan Shark Wales and raise awareness with members of the public, charities, local authorities, advice and support agencies, credit unions, and housing providers on the issues of illegal lending and financial exclusion.

We are seeking to recruit a Digital Communications Officer to join our dynamic team at Stop Loan Sharks Wales to broaden the Unit’s social media reach, by promoting the work of the Unit to tackle illegal lending activities in Wales and to enable potential victims to understand the role of the unit, the support it provides and encourage them to approach the Unit for assistance. The successful candidate will lead on creating and implementing digital content to maximise the reach and impact of the Unit.

About The Role

Pay Details: Grade 6 (SCP 14-19) £28,624 -£31,067 (pay award pending)

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours flexible working (part time/job share applications will be considered)

Main Place of Work: The team works from a main office base in Cardiff, along with hybrid working , but has a Wales-wide remit.

Contract Type: Permanent

Duties will include:

  • Develop and execute a digital marketing strategy for Stop Loan Sharks Wales and the wider Shared Regulatory Service.
  • Lead and enhance social media presence by creating engaging content for established and emerging platforms.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate impactful communications campaigns to both internal and external audiences.
  • Promote Stop Loan Sharks Wales through social media campaigns, news articles, and collaborations with partner agencies.
  • Assist with developing and delivering effective communication plans for public engagement activities.
  • Manage media enquiries and build relationships with journalists.
  • Research and write blogs, influencer content, and website material.
  • Utilise digital marketing metrics and analytics to optimize messaging and evaluate campaign effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, including the Council’s Welsh Language responsibilities and Equal Opportunity Policy.

About You

You will need:

  • Proven experience in digital communications and social media management.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to create engaging content and stay ahead of social media trends.
  • Experience in planning and executing communication campaigns.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing metrics and analytics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and partner agencies.
  • Understanding of local authority publicity practices and compliance requirements
