National Grid plc is recruiting a Business Analyst for the Digital and Data team in Warwick. The role focuses on understanding how the business works today, defining what it needs next, and ensuring digital products reflect those needs.

Hybrid working is available, with base in Warwick. The analyst will elicit requirements, map current and future states, maintain the backlog with the Product Owner, and test that outcomes meet agreed success criteria.

National Grid is recruiting a Business Analyst into the Digital and Data team, working alongside product and delivery colleagues to understand how the business works today, define what it needs next, and make sure the digital products and services we build reflect that.

We are looking for an experienced, outcome-driven analyst who is curious about business process and user need, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical audiences, and motivated by supporting the UK's transition to a net zero energy system.

This position is based from our Warwick office however we offer flexible hybrid working options.

Job Purpose

The Business Analyst supports the product team in delivering high-quality, user-centric digital products and services. The role elicits, analyses and documents business needs, translates them into clear requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria, and tests that what is delivered meets the outcome that was agreed. It spans the full delivery lifecycle, from discovery and current-state analysis through requirements definition, delivery, release, live service and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

The Business Analyst works across the delivery lifecycle, the users whose working day the products affect, and the stakeholders and suppliers who support them.

Analysis and requirements

• Elicit business needs through workshops, interviews, observation and analysis of existing processes, data and documentation.
• Map current-state processes and define future-state options, making the impact of each option on people, process and systems explicit.
• Translate business needs into well-formed requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria that a delivery team can act on.

Delivery

• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, refinement and retrospectives.
• Work with solution architects, engineers, developers and testers so that requirements are understood and delivered as intended.
• Define test scenarios and coordinate user acceptance testing, release readiness, feedback loops and continuous improvement activities.
• Contribute to release notes, user guidance, training materials and stakeholder communications so that changes land well with the people affected by them.
• Understand how products are actually used, and combine that evidence with user feedback to inform decisions and measure outcomes.
• Support adoption across the business, and identify where training, guidance or usability improvements would raise it.

Data-Driven Decision Making

• Identify what data is required to support better operational and planning decisions.
• Work with data analysts and engineering SMEs to validate data quality, source systems, assumptions and business rules.
• Support the creation of evidence-based recommendations for product and process improvements.
• Ensure decisions are supported by facts, trends, operational evidence and measurable impact.

Stakeholder engagement and user advocacy

• Collaborate with stakeholders across National Grid, Digital and Engineering teams to gather requirements and understand how people work day to day.
• Communicate complex topics in a simple, structured and business-friendly way.
• Facilitate alignment between business users, subject matter experts, product teams, support teams and suppliers.
• Challenge constructively where requirements are unclear, assumptions are weak or value is not defined.
• Support senior stakeholders with concise updates, options analysis and clear recommendations.

About You

The essential criteria below are the minimum required to be considered for the role. The desirable criteria distinguish between candidates who meet that minimum.

Essential qualifications and experience

• Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as business, engineering, information systems or computer science.
• Demonstrable experience of working as a business analyst on digital products, business applications or services through their lifecycle.
• Experience of requirements elicitation, process mapping and current-state to future-state analysis.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Analytical mindset with a strong interest in systems, business process and user‑centred design.
• Stakeholder management skills sufficient to engage confidently with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Experience of working with cross‑functional teams including business users, architects, engineers, developers, testers and UX designers.

Desirable skills and experience

• 5 years of Business Analysis experience, ideally in energy, utilities, asset management or complex engineering environments.
• A good understanding of product management and product ownership principles, and of the application lifecycle from build through to live service and retirement.
• A recognised business analysis qualification such as BCS or IIBA, or equivalent practical experience.
• Understanding of application integration, APIs, system interfaces and the data that flows between them.
• Experience of data analysis and of using data to evidence a recommendation.
• Familiarity with ITIL or equivalent service management practice, covering incident, problem, change and release management.
• Experience of working with vendor‑supplied or COTS applications, including upgrade cycles and supplier relationships.
• Experience of working on line‑of‑business applications, engineering or asset management systems, workflow tools or operational decision‑support tools.
• Experience of supporting governance forums with clear analysis, decision logs and executive‑level summaries.

What You’ll Get

A competitive salary between £61,000 – £72,000 dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive

• 26 days holiday, plus eight statutory days, an option to buy extra holiday days, and the option to holiday swap up to 3 bank holiday days
