Job summary

Rathbones is seeking a Digital Application Developer to build, enhance and support digital client and adviser applications across web and mobile channels. Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable digital applications across web, iOS and Android channels.

• Implement mobile-native features like biometrics, push notifications and secure storage.

About the Role

The Digital Application Developer is responsible for building, enhancing and supporting Rathbones' digital client and adviser applications across web and mobile channels. Working within the Digital Experience Development team, the role develops secure, scalable and intuitive digital capabilities that help clients and advisers engage seamlessly with Rathbones.

Reporting to the Head of Digital Experience Development, the role plays a key part in delivering Rathbones' digital proposition by developing applications, integrations and APIs across investment, onboarding, reporting, servicing and client insight capabilities. The successful candidate will work across the full software development lifecycle, partnering with Product, Design, Architecture and Data teams to build resilient, secure and future-ready platforms spanning web, iOS and Android channels.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable digital applications across web, iOS and Android channels, with a focus on intuitive client and adviser experiences.
• Build modern web and mobile solutions using React, TypeScript, Swift, SwiftUI, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and relevant platform frameworks.
• Develop reusable application components, APIs and integration services connecting digital channels with client, investment, reporting, CRM, identity and operational platforms.
• Implement mobile-native capabilities such as biometrics, push notifications, secure device storage, deep linking and app store release processes.
• Embed engineering best practice across solution design, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, logging, observability, performance and secure coding.
• Work closely with Product, UX/UI, Business Analysis, Architecture and Engineering colleagues to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Participate fully in Agile delivery, production support and continuous improvement activities, contributing to platform stability and delivery quality.
• Identify opportunities to use AI, automation and emerging technologies to improve client experience, engineering productivity and digital platform capability.

About you

• Proven experience delivering modern digital applications in a professional software engineering environment.
• Experience designing, consuming and supporting APIs, integration services and enterprise-scale distributed architectures.
• Strong understanding of application architecture, design patterns, secure development, authentication, authorisation and identity management.
• Experience with CI/CD, source control, automated testing, DevOps practices, monitoring and operational support.
• Good understanding of accessibility, usability, responsive design, performance and mobile-first engineering principles.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and collaboration skills, with experience working in Agile product delivery teams.
• Preferred
• Experience developing client-facing digital platforms within wealth management, financial services or other regulated industries.
• Experience with React Native, Flutter, Azure cloud services, cloud-native architectures or API management platforms.
• Knowledge of mobile authentication, biometrics, digital identity, app store release processes and resilient platform operations.
• Exposure to AI-enabled client experiences, personalisation, conversational interfaces or relevant engineering, cloud or mobile certifications.
