Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinicalskills while providing high-quality dietetic care to patients across a variedrange of acute inpatient wards. Based at Darlington Memorial Hospital, you willbecome a valued member of a supportive and experienced team, with occasionalopportunities to work across other County Durham and Darlington sites,including University Hospital of North Durham and Bishop Auckland Hospital. Therole may also include experience in general dietetic clinics, offering furthervariety and professional development.

Our Nutrition and Dietetic Service includesspecialist teams in secondary care, bariatrics, primary care, adult andpaediatric diabetes, home enteral feeding and paediatrics. You will workalongside a strong professional network of Band 5, 6 and 7 Dietitians,supported by Dietetic Assistants and a central administration team, providingaccess to a wealth of knowledge, peer support and opportunities to grow yourcareer.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

This varied and rewarding role offers the opportunity to manage your own caseload, supporting patients referred by inpatient, communityand secondary care professionals. You will provide person-centred dietetic careacross a range of settings, including hospital wards, outpatient clinics andtelephone clinics, enabling you to build broad clinical experience and make ameaningful difference to patient outcomes.

You will work closely with Dietitians and colleagues acrossthe wider multidisciplinary team, benefiting from shared expertise,collaborative working and a supportive professional network.

As a department committed to developing the futureworkforce, we provide A, B and C placements for dietetic students. You willhave the opportunity to contribute actively to placement planning,coordination, supervision and assessment, further developing your leadershipand educational skills.

Our Nutrition and Dietetic Service brings together sixspecialist teams: secondary care, including nutrition support and criticalcare; bariatrics; primary care, including care home training; adult andpaediatric diabetes; adult Home Enteral Feeding; and paediatrics, includingHome Enteral Feeding and paediatric weight management.

You will join an established service comprising49 Dietitians, one Specialist Nurse and four Dietetic Assistants, supported bya central administration team. With teams based at Darlington MemorialHospital, University Hospital of North Durham, Bishop Auckland Hospital andShotley Bridge Hospital, you will become part of a large, diverse service withaccess to extensive specialist knowledge, peer support and opportunities forcontinued professional development.
