South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust in Barnsley is seeking a Band 5 Dietitian for our Community Nutrition & Dietetics Service on a fixed-term 12-month contract. The role is part-time (17.5 hours/week) and requires driving to community settings such as care homes and clinics.

Salary £32,073 to £39,043 pro rata per year, with Agenda for Change Pay Band 5 and flexible working patterns. Applicants must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 5 Dietitian to join our busy Community Nutrition & Dietetics Service in Barnsley, for 1 year from November 2026 (fixed term contract) on a part time basis (17.5hours/week). The post is varied and interesting, covering a range of community dietetics including community clinics, care homes and people who are housebound. The caseload includes nutrition support & general dietetics. Our team is friendly and welcoming, supporting each other to provide the best nutritional care for the people of Barnsley. You will need excellent team working, communication, organisation and time management skills, as well as be able to demonstrate a commitment to CPD. This is a community-based role; applicants must have a driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes. A contribution to the training of student dietitians is also expected. Visa sponsorship under the Health and Care Worker visa route can only be considered if the prorated salary meets the minimum threshold of £25,000, as required by the UK Visas and Immigration. Therefore, sponsorship is not possible due to the working hours. We are happy to accept applications from candidates who can prove their right to work in the UK or via alternative visa routes. Such applications will be considered alongside all other applications.

Job Description

Job responsibilities

• Manage a caseload requiring dietetic intervention in the community this may include a range of settings such as care homes, clinics and patients own homes.
• Be able to provide dietetic assessment and intervention for a range of conditions including nutrition support and general dietetics.
• Work as a part of our team of dietitians and dietetic assistants.
• Have a patient centred approach in line with our Trust values.
• Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
• Possess excellent communication/interpersonal skills to negotiate and build rapport with patients, carers and families.
• Work with key members of multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide individualised advice, support & care plans to patients.
• Demonstrate excellent time management, prioritisation & organisational skills.
• Participate in education & staff development, clinical supervision and the delivery of dietetic student training.

Core Duties & repsonsibilities

Clinical

• To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of own work including the management of patients in your care
• To undertake clinical assessment and treatment of own caseload of patients including calculation of individual diets and enteral feeding regimens where appropriate
• Monitor and review individual treatment plans as required according to patients clinical condition to provide the most effective and efficient outcomes for patients.
• Organise, produce, deliver and evaluate training on nutrition and dietetics related issues other health service staff and patients and carers
• To communicate effectively with patients carers, members of the multidisciplinary team and other agencies to achieve patient centred goals
• To produce and update dietetic/nutritional teaching materials and therapeutic diet sheets.

Professional

• To be responsible for maintaining own professional development through a variety of CPD activities and reflective practice
• To assist senior clinicians with the supervision, training and induction of student dietitians, dietetic assistants and newly appointed staff when necessary
• To contribute to audit and development and implementation of clinical standards/policies/outcome measures within the department.
• Respond to nutritional queries from other health professionals and the general public.
• To keep accurate and comprehensive records in accordance with trust and dietetic department standards, including computer based data entry.
• To adhere to Trust and dietetic department standards/policies and procedures. Including Trust and area specific appraisal and clinical supervision
• To ensure that equipment such as enteral feeding pumps is used safely by staff, patients and carers.
• Work closely with immediate dietetic colleagues and team leader to provide a comprehensive and cohesive dietetic service.
• Develop and maintain links with other Dietitians, through local, regional and national networks.
• To work collaboratively with service users, catering staff and facilities monitoring co-ordinators to ensure that menus meet the nutritional, cultural and ethical needs of service users.
• The post holder holder is expected to cover the duties of colleagues in posts within the range of the post holders knowledge and skills.

Person Specification

Essential

• Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post. A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years (subject to the need to act with fairness and equality of opportunity, particularly where the sickness is related to a disability and/or pregnancy).

Qualifications

• BSc/MSc or Post-graduate Diploma in Dietetics.
