Qualifications

  • Qualifications include BSc in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent.
  • Experience working within clinical settings preferred.

Job description

We are pleased to offer the role of a permanent full-time Band 5 dietitian working within our dynamic Dietetic Department. Our department provides specialist dietetic care to acutely unwell adults and children, as well as providing outpatient care for oncology patients (head and neck and upper gastrointestinal cancers) and patients with chronic conditions (diabetes, renal, cardiology, cystic fibrosis, paediatric weight management).

Main duties of the job

We aim to integrate the successful candidate into one of 3 teams:

Paediatrics would include supporting dietitians with ward management of medical and surgical conditions including faltering growth, nutrition support, home enteral feeds, eating disorders, gastro and cardiac. You will be supported to cover general and coeliac disease clinic, and input with a Restrictive Eater patient group. Opportunities may arise for learning in other specialist areas.

Oncology would include dietetic management of in- and outpatient adults undergoing treatment for head & neck and upper gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary cancers. This MDT focused role involves working with colleagues to support curative and palliative patients through surgery, and whilst preparing for, undergoing and following chemo/radiotherapy treatment.

Adult Acute would include inpatient management of complex nutritional conditions, working in areas including gastro, neuro, critical care, surgical and medicine for elderly. The role focuses greatly on enterally fed patients and with facilitating tube discharges. Opportunities may arise for involvement in areas such as outpatient gastro clinic.

All areas will include MDT working and with supporting teams to provide the most appropriate and effective care for patients. Opportunities will be given to help with service development and for personal progression through involvement in audit & research, policy development, training, shadowing opportunities, CPD and supervision.

Job responsibilities
  • To provide a Dietetic service to Medicine for the Elderly wards, General Medical andSurgical wards, Heart Attack clinic and General outpatient clinic.
  • To provide Dietetic advice to patients and/or carers whilst taking into account their social,emotional, psychological and cultural needs.
  • To provide nutritional assessment and Dietetic intervention, on an individual basis,incorporating biochemical and pharmacological review; anthropometry; clinical conditionand other physical parameters.
  • To ensure appropriate treatment, monitoring and review of patients dietary needs,involving other agencies when indicated.
  • To communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team through attendance at wardrounds; case conferences; discharge planning meetings and team meetings asappropriate.
