Job Summary

We currently have 2 roles available - one at City and one at QMC campus. We have an exciting opportunity to join our dietetic team at NUH as a dietetic technician (1.0WTE permanent role). You will be working alongside the dietetic team supporting patients across different inpatient settings to advise, monitor and support specific patients with complex nutritional needs. Working to agreed protocols you will have your own case load, reporting to a supervising dietitian and refer patients where more complicated dietetic intervention is needed. Dietetic technicians are a vital member of the support team that work with the whole team to enhance patient care at NUH.

Main duties of the job

You will be supporting patients on the ward who have a poor nutritional intake and working alongside the dietitians to implement nutritional care plans. NUH are looking for someone with a positive and flexible attitude, with good communication skills. Accurate recording of all patient activity and the use of computer systems will be an integral part of your role in addition to the ordering and coordinating the delivery of nutritional products.

As a technician you will be expected to deliver educational activities such as Cardiac Rehabilitation Programmes and other health promotion initiatives. The technicians are key at delivering the training for MUST to other health professionals and are active at delivering this within ward based care.

Qualifications

Essential
  1. Level 2/GCSEs grade 4 or higher English and maths (Grade C or above prior to 2017) or equivalent Functional Skills.
  2. NVQ/QCF level 3 in healthcare or equivalent relevant qualification e.g. A-level / BTEC.
  3. Evidence of recent work-based learning or self-directed learning.
  4. Willing to proactively engage with Band 4 competencies to demonstrate appropriate level of knowledge and experience required for the role and complete within a 12-month preceptorship.

Desirable
  1. Foundation degree in Health and Social Care, or equivalent level 5 qualification.

  1. Must be flexible with working requirements. Working patterns will be dependent on each clinical setting and may be over 7 days.
